Coaches Information
Additional Coaches Needed
We are looking for more volunteers
to coach in the Recreational program
and the Travel program. We cannot
field a team if we are unable to find
at coach for a particular age level.
Head travel coaches are now required by CDYSL to have
at least a Youth Coaching license
(Level F). This course is a good way
to learn about the game and it helps
prepare you to give back to the kids
of our community.
The Club will fully sponsor it's coaches for this licensing course.
No previous experience is necessary
to get involved. If interested in
finding out more, please contact Angus Eaton at angus@fairpoint.net, or 518.766.5260.
The Coach – Roles and Responsibilities
The function of the coach is to promote sportsmanship as well as the physical and intellectual growth of the players, through participation in the game of soccer. As a member and representative of the New Lebanon Soccer Club (NLSC), the coach is expected to support club decision, policies and regulations. To perform the duties of a coach, it is necessary for coach to know and thoroughly understand the laws of the game of soccer. The coach must demonstrate the ability to follow both the spirit and letter of these laws. In this regard, a coach
is to respect and support the authority of the game referee.
Each coach is expected to hold well organized practice sessions, which include age appropriate instruction in the skills of the game. Remember the children come to play, not listen to the coach talk. Therefore, the game, not the
coach, is the best teacher. They are also encouraged to broaden their knowledge and proficiency through participation in state and national coaching license programs. A coach in the NLSC organization is a role model for the players and parents. This is particularly significant during matches as coaches are accountable for not only their behavior, but also that of the players, families and friends. NLSC will consider a coach’s prior behavior as well as experience and current license level when selecting and assigning travel team coaches.
Each coach should encourage open communication with players and their families. Parents and guardians should be kept informed of the team’s activities, and the coach should be open to comments and constructive criticism. The main objectives over the course of a season, should be to achieve an enjoyable and competitive experience for ALL participants. Coaches have a responsibility to NLSC and are required to represent their team at Club meetings and any special meetings called. Additionally, coaches are required to attend the annual CDYSL coaches meeting to receive team schedules.
